The U3A Short Walk Group met on Tuesday 12th April, and enjoyed a lovely circular walk from Iford Manor via Freshford Mill. Whilst the weather was dry and sunny, we came across floods in Iford Lane. After the walk, refreshments had previously been arranged at Iford Manor, and we were served by William Cartwright-Hignett (the owner’s son). After enjoying drinks and home made biscuits, William surprised us all by saying his father would be happy to give us a guided tour of the gardens. The gardens, originally designed and created by Harold Peto in 1899, have been maintained and further created by Mr & Mrs Cartwright-Hignett since the 1960’s. We were all captivated by the wealth of knowledge of Mr Cartwright-Hignett, who so willingly gave up his time for us”.
