The life & times of Sir Christopher Wren, Monday 13 April, Holy Trinity Church, 2.30pm

Our next monthly talk will be on Monday 13 April – when we will be introduced to the life and times of Wiltshire born Sir Christopher Wren by Ruth Butler of the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre. Most people know that Wren designed St Paul’s Cathedral but did you know that he led a full and interesting life as a scientist before moving on to architecture? He was an Architect, Anatomist, Astronomer, Geometer, Mathematician and Physicist, later building fifty-two churches and one Cathedral. Wren was born at East Knoyle, Wiltshire in 1632, where his father was rector.

From an early age, Wren was gifted in mathematics, geometry and natural philosophy. Wren went to Oxford in 1650, where he became part of the Oxford Circle.
