At the start members decided to look at modern architecture from 1900 onwards. We saw some films and members gave talks or got outside speakers to give talks on Lutyens, Le Corbusier, Art Deco buildings in Napier, 21st century architecture and others. But it is always better to see buildings in the flesh (or concrete), so have looked at modern building in Bristol and Bath, and members have organised visits to modern houses in and around Bradford on Avon.
For our next session, it has been suggested that we look at modern additions to old buildings (we did a visit to the Holburne Museum), or at designed villages. We do not have to stay with modern architecture — we have already done a tour of historic buildings in Trowbridge and joined West Wilts U3A for a visit to Trowbridge Town Hall.
We normally meet at 2.30 on the second Wednesday of the month; for talks we have often used the Town Club. We welcome new members who are interested in the buildings by which we are surrounded.
